WARNING: another attempt at writing fluff *gets bricked* + another fic written in a hurry so don’t expect miracles… ^_^;;

Summary: They know, they just keep pretending the opposite since otherwise it would be weird… or wouldn’t?

A/N: A failed attempt at writing a birthday fic for Vera-chan hinatah >.< and now back to study ^_^;;; ~~blame my exams for not having time to write something meaningful, okay?~~

It was not like they didn’t know about it.

They were neither blind nor deaf and naturally both of them once in a while needed to use the Internet.

And then it was just a matter of a moment together with a little curiosity that was nothing unusual for boys of their age to type their names into the browser and find it.

The picture manipulations of them holding hands in situations they had never happened to be, hugging each other, lying on a bed together half-naked, even kissing each other. The fan reports talking about them being seen on a street or about the t-shirt one of them had worn a month ago and the other one was spotted in it last week, as if there was a hidden meaning in them sharing similar clothing, another than the same stylist. The endless speculations about their rings and other accessories and about whether Kame was or wasn’t Jin’s best friend and where was Yamapi’s place in this triangle then. And of course comics and fanfictions, that couldn’t be left aside. It seemed to be almost unbelievable how many people out there was able to write about them… about them being together. Being more than just friends. And not only write about it but write about it with all details.

Kame had never forgotten (and most probably never would) Jin’s expression when they came across a fic like that for the first time, when Jin was all eager about finding the date of the Tokyo concert of one of his favorite bands and they had spent most of their rare days off in front of a computer instead of going out to a beach or just hanging around as always. And though Jin’s English pronunciation wasn’t the best one and it was usually hard to understand him a single word no way it meant Jin couldn’t speak – and read – English. He could. And his eyes soon widened as he got the point of the story. Kame was way behind, in both reading and understanding what was written there, but his and Jin’s name in one sentence together with the word “kiss” gave him a good picture of the plot. He still hadn’t finished reading when Jin suddenly closed the window of the explorer and jumped up on his feet.

“Let’s go out, ne?” the older one suggested promptly already standing in the doorframe. “Wanna play baseball?”

Even now, quite a long time after that afternoon Kame still remembered himself frowning at the sudden change of the situation but back then he didn’t have time to muse about it, and most probably he would have forgotten about the whole thing soon if he hadn’t noticed the slight blush in his friend's face when they took gloves and a ball and were heading to the backyard.

“Jin?” Kame raised an eyebrow, an amused smile plucking in the corner of his pinkish lips.

As much as it usually looked the other way round, Jin had always been the shyer between the two of them. He might have had the face of a player and there was something in the way he was looking at everybody around him, but the truth was he was nothing like that. He was the type who would help an old woman with groceries and take care of an abandoned kitten or who was dreaming of falling in love with a cute girl and spending the rest of his life with her creating a home for her and their children. He was the type who would be bothered by what they had read earlier for quite some time, unlike Kame who was pretty much infamous for his frivolous jokes and remarks with double meaning and whose angelic face was in a direct clash with his naughty way of thinking most of the time.

“Are you still thinking about that thing?” Kame chuckled. Well, he might have not read the whole story but he had a few ideas what it could have continued like and what could have shocked Jin so much at the end.

He had always known fans could be crazy.

“Did we really kiss there? How was it like?”

“NO!” Jin vehemently shook his head, messy strands of light hair falling down his flushed cheeks. Maybe it was too much vehemently for not looking suspicious but it was late anyway. “Of course not! Just… Let’s just play baseball, ne?”

For a moment Kame narrowed his eyes studying askance the other who seemed to be a bit too much into baseball than was usual. Jin actually sucked a big time in baseball and was always doing anything to convince Kame to play soccer instead. Why not today? Kame was wondering. Could it be…? Kame suppressed a blatant idea of teasing Jin a little more as a much better thought came up to his mind. What if he just waited and used the fans’ fantasies against the other one when Jin would not be expecting it at all?

“Okay,” Kame shrugged his shoulders taking the ball from Jin and going to the other side of the backyard, “let’s just play then.”

Jin breathed out in a visible relief and put on his glove. Long time ago already had he forgotten the initial aim for searching the Internet today and just hoped forgetting the rest of the day would be as simple, too.

Of course it wasn’t.

It was not like they didn’t try to forget.

They did, or at least Jin – but reading the few paragraphs had left too many disturbing thoughts on his teenage mind, and he could only thank god Kame’s English was worse than the other would have ever admitted and Kame hadn’t got pass the sentence about kissing.

The kissing part was – though Jin needed quite a lot of time to accept the thought without feeling sickened by that someone actually really did write stuff like that about him and Kame – not that bad. Well, for sure it was better than the rest of what he had managed to read before being too shocked to continue…

Jin didn’t need to think about it twice to come to a conclusion that not thinking about it and eventually forgetting the whole story would be the best for his sanity. This turned to be a hard task to solve though as soon as fans’ madness over Gokusen started.

Jin used to think he and Kame spent a lot of time together but it seemed to be nothing compared to the whole days together now as the filming usually started soon in the morning and ended about eight pm, sometimes even later, and then they still had to go back to Jimusho for dance lessons and show rehearsals. Not that Jin minded, he actually liked having the younger one around. Even though Kame was (for Jin’s liking) way too serious once the cameras were running, having him around was still somehow comforting and soothing and Kame’s presence was helping Jin to relax.

And of course then there were the moments when the filming ended in the evenings and they were going back to Tokyo, just the two of them driving in Jin’s car and talking as always about nothing and everything. Soon Jin realized he loved those moments the most, the moments when Kame stopped acting and was just who he was. The serious face of the professional was put aside and the Kazuya from the past, the carefree and chirpy boy who had been Jin’s best friend for what seemed to be an eternity, was back. No matter how tired Jin could be after the whole day a single smile on Kame’s lips could make everything better and Jin was able to be awake for the rest of the night, as if his friend’s presence was a fuel for him.

Kame on the other hand tried to remember everything from the day back then and with a wicked amusement even thought about going back in the history of the explorer and finding the page again to read the rest – but his work kept him busy and with a role in a television drama he soon displaced everything not related to work out of his head. And when thousands of fangirls were getting crazy over Kamenashi and Akanishi playing in a drama together and Kame and Jin had so much work they could hardly find time for sleeping, a faraway afternoon and a made-up story was not important anymore.

It was only when another day on the set ended and he and Jin changed their clothes ready to go back to Tokyo when they were passing by a group of girls persistently waiting in front of the studio on their way to Jin’s car, and Kame heard it. Or maybe he just thought he heard it but in the end this detail wasn’t important anymore as the word got stuck on his mind – again.

Akame.

He needed a moment to connect the word that sounded a little familiar with him and Jin and the rather disturbing story he had never finished reading though he had once planned doing it. His eyes widened in realization and he even looked back over his shoulder to catch a sight of the girls who shouted the word. His move stirred up even more screaming and Kame hastened his steps to catch up with Jin. Kame gave the other one an inquiring side look, just checking and making sure about Jin’s reaction but it seemed Jin either didn’t remember anything or didn’t hear the word or couldn’t link the two things together.

Kame sighed in relief and smiled.

Somehow it was better this way, with Jin not remembering. Unlike the time from before Kame had no intentions on teasing Jin with that topic anymore. He had already missed his chance. Moreover it would be for nothing anyway since Jin apparently didn’t remember.

They got in the car, Jin turn on the radio and once the motor kicked on everything seemed to be back in normal, the two of them chatting about today’s filming and complaining about having to go to the late night rehearsal and getting up early in the morning again because of the scenes that had to be filmed during sunrise.

Suddenly there was an idea springing up out of nowhere, none of them could later tell who had come up with it (Jin would swear it had been Kame and Kame would be more than sure it had been the other way round), and on the next lights Jin didn’t turn left as always but rolled the steering wheel right. Instead of ending up in the studio they happened to be on a very different place, laying on their stomachs on comfortable massage beds, both naked only their lower parts being discreetly covered with fluffy towels, waiting for masseuses to come and help their tensed bodies to relax. An aromatic candle lit on a table in the corner was filling the room with sweet fragrance which along with a silent calm music was making Kame’s eyes close and his breathing soon became serene. Whosever the idea of going here was right now he was more than thankful, quickly realizing how much he needed something like this after weeks of hard work without having a single day just for himself.

Jin on the other hand kept slightly fidgeting not able to find the right position and propping himself on the elbows his fingers were nervously playing with the folded towel that was supposed to be a rest for his head. A silent sigh caught his attention and Jin turned to his friend seeing Kame snuggled down to his bent arms. With his eyes still closed he was now facing Jin, a few strands of reddish hair falling over his peaceful face and lips slightly parted.

A thought about how beautiful the younger boy was at the moment crossed Jin’s mind before his brain could stop it.

“Kazu?” Jin gulped. It must have been because of the dim light and the music and there was surely something in the essence of the candle otherwise Jin would have never thought about Kame like that. Never… or…maybe…?

Kame let out another sigh, only this time it sounded more like a moan and Jin’s eyes widened. “You know…” Kame said softly, “I just really hope no one will find out about this.”

“Of course not,” Jin blurted out before his brain proceeded Kame most probably couldn’t read his mind so he wasn’t talking about what Jin had just been thinking about. And once he realized how stupid his acting was Jin silently groaned and buried his face into the fluffy towel.

“We can still say the filming ended late tonight, right?” Kame was thinking aloud. “Or that there was traffic or something… What do you think? …Jin?” He opened his eyes not receiving any reaction from the older boy. Jin somehow managed to cover his head with the towel and Kame’s eyebrows knitted when he heard Jin almost unhearable grumbling. “Jin? Jin, what’s wrong?”

“Huh?” After a while Jin tucked up the towel a little peeping at Kame from under the fabric. The boy was giving him a curious look, a little frown formed on his forehead. “Nothing,” Jin mumbled and let the towel fall back over his face.

Kame rolled his eyes and tried to relax again but the awareness of something was obviously bothering the other was distracting him and he couldn’t get himself back into the mood. He sighed and sat up supporting himself with one arm. “Come one, Akanishi, I know it’s not nothing.”

The song changed but the current one was very similar to the previous and neither Jin nor Kame paid attention to the music anyhow.

Another groan was followed by a moment of silence before Jin finally spoke up, still illusionary hidden under the towel as if he could escape from Kame’s wondering look like this.

“Have you thought about it ever …since then?” It was more a whine than a question and Kame didn’t understand at all. At first.

“What do you mean?”

Next words made his jaw drop and his heartbeat quicken. Jin fidgeted and though Kame couldn’t see his face he could clearly imagine the irresolute, hesitant expression, the narrowed eyes and Jin biting on his lower lip. “Akame. The story about them…us. The kissing and…” Jin silenced remembering Kame had never read more.

Kame stiffened.

So Jin obviously heard the girls before. Suddenly the room seemed to be a lot warmer than before.

And Kame hated the towel hiding Jin’s head because like that he couldn’t see the latter’s face expression which was making the whole situation hard for him. Jin’s eyes were always mirroring all his thoughts and Kame really needed to know what was on Jin’s mind before he would eventually answer.

“I…” Kame licked his lip, eyes aimlessly roaming about the room, “…no?” he tried the alternative that seemed to be the one Jin could be expecting to get though this answer was not exactly the true one. Well, Kame might have not been thinking about it all the time, right, but it had always been somewhere in a corner of his mind. Every time Jin pouted or sent an airy kiss to the audience, every time he brushed his lips with his tongue – not that Kame was eager about kissing Jin (oh god, of course he wasn’t!) but he found himself not being disgusted by the idea either. Jin’s lips looked soft and… and… no, he couldn’t just come and say he actually had been thinking of kissing Jin!

“Un,” Jin nodded and the fluffy towel shivered together with the move of Jin’s head. “Just… forget I asked, ne?”

With that Kame considered the topic closed and laid back down turning his head impatiently to the door. Like this they would be really late and no fake traffic alibi could save them…

“Maybe we should just go,” he suggested.

“I have,” Jin mumbled incoherently all of sudden. He propped himself on the elbows taking the towel off of his face lifting it up and slowly looked straight at Kame. Not getting any reaction Jin cleared his throat. “I mean…well…I might have been thinking about it.” His voice wasn’t the loudest one though but he wasn’t mumbling either and a single frozen look into his dark eyes and Kame knew Jin was serious. It had always been all about Jin’s eyes, after all. “About kissing you,” Jin bit his lip lowering his look, not sure what Kame’s silence could mean.

“You thought about it?” Kame reared up hanging his legs down from the table

Jin sensed Kame was moving and he lost all courage to look at the younger one again. He was actually waiting for Kame to burst into laughing or to make some jokes on his account.

“I said I might have thought about it and that’s different.” Jin quickly hid under the towel again cursing himself for not keeping his mouth shut.

Jin heard a silent rustling sound and closed his eyes, mentally even smacking himself for being such an idiot and talking before thinking once again. Obviously Kame had enough of waiting and enough of his company and was about to dress up and leave, not to mention Jin’s fear of what Kame would think about him now after he practically admitted he was thinking of kissing the younger one.

Suddenly the towel lifted up a little letting a faint light in onto Jin’s face and surprised by the unexpected shine Jin shot his eyes open – only to meet Kame’s brown orbs right in front of him as the other one put his chin onto the edge of the table Jin was lying on and the towel was now covering both their heads. The younger one was carefully watching him.

“K-Kazu…?”

“What was the end of the story?” A silent voice slipped Kame’s lips while his eyes were studying Jin’s features as if seeing it for the first time. “You read it back then, didn’t you? Tell me.”

Jin’s eyes widened. He felt uncomfortable a bit yet he didn’t try to escape from the current situation anyhow either because deep down it was actually nothing near awkward he had to admit.

“It was…we…they…” A lump was forming in his throat with every second left and he could feel Kame’s breath on his face and the gentle curious eyes never leaving him and… “Why do you want to know anyway? You said you were not thinking about it so…”

The cute pink lips in front of Jin curled into a smile. “I might have lied,” Kame whispered tilting his head a little just a moment before his lips found Jin’s turning the old memory of a made-up story into a very living and sweet reality.
