Pairing: Akame, hints of Jin x other (again...^^;)
End of September 2005, Music Station rehearsal
“Can’t believe he is late AGAIN,” Ueda was talking to himself as he was changing his clothes in the studio dressing room. Every move of his a bit too girly body was tense and heated, his eyes flicking to the door once in a while. “Without him we won’t be able to start on time.”
“It’s Akanishi you are talking about,” Taguchi remarked without even glancing up from his game. “You should have realized by now there are different rules for him.”
Ueda frowned thinking it through but then again he only rolled his eyes. Taguchi was just exaggerating as always. Of course the rules were same for all of them. No need to believe that Akanishi was treated differently….
“Ne, Kame?” Ueda turned his attention to his youngest band mate.
Kame didn’t hear at first, as he let his mind wandering over the conversation he had with the company management early that day. The meeting took place in one of the smaller conference rooms in Jimusho and as soon as Kame entered he found himself being accompanied by Yamashita Tomohisa who he was actually filming a drama with. They weren’t too close friends at that time, just colleagues perhaps, but Kame did his best to get along with Yamapi because they shared the same best friend. After a moment of awkward silence while they couldn’t find any convenient topic to talk about, Yamapi asked whether Kame knew why they were there and they found out they were equally clueless. Then they chatted for a while before Johnny-san himself came to tell them the company was about to release their duet as a single. Yamapi was all excited. Kame, conversely, wasn’t sure what that meant. He didn’t want... he didn’t want to record his first single with Yamashita. He didn’t want to debut without KAT-TUN…without Jin…
Kame startled as he felt somebody patted him on the shoulder. He turned around only to see an impatient look of his elder band mate.
“You actually know where Akanishi is, right?” Ueda asked, his foot nervously tapping on the floor in the same rhythm as ticking of the clock on the wall.
“No, no, no…. I saw you came here together in the morning. Now you are here but he is obviously –” Ueda demonstratively looked around, seeing only Taguchi on the sofa and Maru chatting with Koki on the other side of the room, “– not.”
“Johnny-san wanted to talk to him. You satisfied now?” And all Kame hoped for was that the reason for that wasn’t to tell Jin about the single. Kame didn’t want Jin to find out this way. He wanted to tell him by himself though he had no idea how to do it.
Ueda frowned. “Johnny-san wanted….what could he possibly want from him?”
That caught Koki’s and Maru’s attention and both of them came near.
“Jin went to Johnny?” Maru assured he heard right. “Why?”
“Shouldn’t we be there, too?” Koki wondered. “Well, you know, if it concerns KAT-TUN then –”
“It doesn’t!” Kame yelped all of sudden. The moment later he found himself being burned through by four pairs of stunned eyes. He blushed being observed like that. “What? I mean… if it concerned the whole group – but it doesn’t, right? – then we…would be there, too, ne? All six of us since KAT-TUN is not only Jin, or me…or…”
“Sometimes it seems so,” Koki said with sarcasm.
“But it’s not! It’s –”
Kame didn’t have time to finish his thought as the door opened and Jin came in. Ueda immediately called him names, lecturing him for being late once again, but Jin only muttered something like a quiet excuse and proceeded to his locker. Koki and Maru bumped at him wanting to know what the talk with Johnny was about, Koki even put forth some suspicions, to which Jin didn’t bother to react.
That was strange, Kame realized. Jin usually improved every opportunity to have a tiff with Koki. And as he looked more carefully he could see Jin’s eyes were red and wet as if he was crying just a moment ago… Kame didn’t wait for anything, without much thinking about how his action might have seemed to the others he made a few quick steps, grabbed Jin’s wrist and dragged him away to the next-door empty dressing room, slamming the door behind them with all his might for the others to realize they were not welcomed.
“What was that about?” Jin asked, stunned by Kame’s behavior.
Kame shook his head. “That’s my question here, Jin. What happened?”
Jin sighed. He knew he couldn’t hide his condition, not from Kame. All he could was to turn away from him as he didn’t want to be seen like this. But it was pointless as he soon felt the younger one’s soft touch on his back. The hand was caressing him, comforting him, giving him strength. And feeling all that Jin closed his eyes as the warm tears started to roll down his face again.
“It’s…it’s over, Kazu.”
Kame slowly made Jin face him. “What are you talking about? What is over?”
“He knows!” Jin sniffed and whipped the tears with the back of his hand. “He found out and now…he…”
Seeing Jin like this was heartbreaking. Kame always saw Jin as the stronger one, the one who wasn’t afraid. The one who did what he wanted to do. The one who comforted Kame every time something bad happened, giving him courage and a promise of brighter tomorrows. Now their roles switched. Jin was the one on the edge and Kame was afraid he wouldn’t be able to help him.
So he did the only thing he could, the very same thing Jin had done countless times before for him when he was helpless. He hugged him as tight as he could.
“It’s gonna be ok,” Kame whispered into Jin’s ear, “everything’s gonna be ok.”
Jin’s body was shaking with every sob. “I hate him…so much, Kazu. Why…why does he do this?”
Kame’s hand was calmly stroking the latter’s hair.
“The worst thing is…” Jin collected his emotions a bit but never relieved himself from the balmy embrace, “he made me choose, you know. He knew exactly how impossibly painful it would be for me to do that and he made me choose, nevertheless.”
With those words Kame pulled out a little. He found Jin’s eyes and locked their looks together. “What do you mean?”
“He said it was KAT-TUN…or Taka-chan. And I couldn’t leave you. I would do it to everyone else without a wink. I wouldn’t care. But…not... not to you, Kazu…not to you.”
No words could describe what Kame felt after hearing those words. He wanted to slap Jin for being such a baka yet wanted to hug him even tighter for being such a good friend. Not doing one or another Kame sprang on his feet and pecked a warm-hearted kiss on Jin’s forehead.
“I can’t do it.” Jin buried his face to the crook of the smooth neck, inhaling the sweetest scent he had ever smelled. “I won’t let you go.”
He felt two hands taking his cheeks, making his head to rise and his eyes to look straight into the beautiful face in front of him.
Uehara smiled at him. The smile was sorrowful yet caring, full of unspoken love. “We both knew this day might come, Jin.”
“I just didn’t think it would be so soon. I don’t want to let you go.”
She was holding his face as if it was the most precious treasure in the world. “You already did, Jin, we can’t change it.” She was sitting on his lap, facing him, with her legs tightly wrapped around his waist. She could feel his heartbeat. For the last time.
“No. No, we can.” Jin gripped her slender hips as if holding her tightly could make them stay together like this. Forever. “We can.”
Uehara slightly shook her head and her long hair fell down from her shoulder titillating Jin’s exposed collarbone. He held his breath shivering under that unexpected ticklish touch. The girl giggled and gave Jin an apologetic smile. Then her face became all serious again as she knew the time had come. She ran her fingers through the boy’s dark stubborn hair uncovering his forehead.
“I’m not angry at you,” she said. “You did the right thing.”
“So why it feels so wrong right now?” He snuggled her up even closer but could sense something about her had changed. He opened his mouth to ask but the realization came up on its own.
She pressed her lips to his forehead, close to the very spot where another kiss was sealed only a few hours ago, staying like that for a moment which couldn’t be long enough even if it lasted forever. Then she withdrew herself from the embracement letting Jin’s inert arms fall on the edge of the bed next to his sitting body.
“If it was someone else I wouldn’t give up so easily.”
“I…I love you…”
She gave Jin an understanding, warming look. “And he needs you.”
And with that Jin could only watch as his Taka-chan turned away from him, crossed the room and her naked body disappeared into the bathroom. The cracking sound of the key locking the door told Jin that what they had had was over.
What remained was his best friend.
Pinky Promise 5: Care
A/N2: Surprisingly this chapter was easy to write since I had a bigger part of it in my head for quite a long time already... plus I was all home alone so there was no one to distract me from writing... plus it kinda seems that my brain has developed some kind of writing-in-English obsession and I'm not able to focus on anything else ^^ Well, I should have considered it because it's the same when I write in my own language. I'm just keen on writing, that's all...!
