Kame knew how much Jin loved children. Well, everybody knew how much Jin loved children because he didn’t try to deny it anyway, right the opposite. The moment he was said the next episode of CTKT would be from kindergarten and he would be the one going there together with Taguchi and Nakamaru Jin’s face lighted up and the sparkles in his eyes stayed there the whole following week.
It wasn’t a secret Jin loved children and a blush budded on Kame’s face every time he remembered the times when he used to be worried about it. Even though the love he and Jin shared and had one for the other could give them so much, there were also a lot of things they would never have because of that. Always lying about their relationship, never being close on public, never having a family that would be accepted by everyone. Never having and raising children. Once he even tried to talk to Jin about it in serious. The older one listened carefully to every word but then just laughed and changed the topic shuffling the talk about children away.
Kame was a little confused and it took him a while before he finally understood.
Jin loved children and loved being with them, playing with them. He loved how children got all excited because of his random ideas and jokes. Unlike being in the company of adults, with children around Jin didn’t have to pretend he was mature, too. Because he wasn’t. There were actually only two things he could be serious about, and that was music and Kame. The rest of the world of adults was a double dutch for him and he felt lost in there most of the time.
With children around he felt being freed and relaxed, without a need of controlling his actions or words.
And then there was one more place where he didn’t have to pretend anything…
“Tadaima!” Jin shouted, the door didn’t close behind him yet and he was already taking off his shoes and throwing his bag to a corner.
Kame was in the kitchen preparing dinner. Hearing Jin’s voice from the foyer and the commonplace of the simple word gave him a warm feeling inside. In the moments like this, when after the all-day filming Jin came here instead of going to his own apartment, Kame sometimes almost forgot it wasn’t real. They were not living together and he knew they hardly ever would, but Jin’s loud greeting and the well-known sounds of him kicking aside the shoes and making his way through the apartment always made Kame chuckle and answer a cheerful “okaeri”.
Jin stepped to him from behind and nestled up to him placing his chin onto Kame’s shoulder, curiously peeping what the younger one was doing.
Sometimes Jin wrapped his arms around Kame’s waist and turned him around not minding they both would be smeared eventually since Kame didn’t have a chance to wash his hands, another time Jin came a little late and the dinner had been already prepared so they just sat down and ate, chatting and having fun, and then there were days like this when Jin was excited a little too much because of what had happened during the day but Kame was a bit tired because of the same reason, yet being stubborn as he was he still wanted to make them a dinner and then they would sit down and watch television before gradually drift into sleep.
Kame continued cutting vegetable while Jin sat down and started talking about the whole day, every now and then melting at what the children had been doing or saying, even about Taguchi and what an impression his far-famed back flips left at the children. Having half an ear on Jin Kame was listening to his chatting about the day routine in the kindergarten and how much the children loved him and what nicknames they thought for him. Jin chuckled talking about a little girl who came to him just before their leaving and when he lowered to her she quickly pecked his cheek and ran away hiding herself round the nearest corner.
“That’s cute,” Kame remarked setting the table. Jin talking about the little girl somehow caught his attention and suddenly realizing his lack of response during Jin’s telling Kame decided to tease the older one a little, just to show him he was really interested in what Jin was telling him. He looked at Jin with a pretended frown. “She kissed you? Should I be jealous?”
“I don’t think she will want to talk to me again any time soon,” Jin answered in a serious tone taking his chop sticks and when Kame finally sat down, too, Jin mumbled a hasty “itadakimasu” and got to eating, looking like he hadn’t eaten for weeks. “You know, she actually didn’t even give me her phone number,” Jin pouted, stuck to his kindergarten boy acting. “She used me.”
Kame rolled his eyes. He was really too tired for Jin’s games today, yet he couldn’t stop a smile to creep into his face seeing once again the well-known childish Akanishi was on the roll.
That was exactly how the whole dinner continued, with Jin getting all excited because of the soccer match they had and his team won over Nakamaru’s and then the little relay race which as Jin didn’t forget to mention his squad won, too, and all of that just thanks to him because he prevailed over his opponent in the first round that was crucial for the whole race.
Kame kept silent most of the time. He knew better then trying to explain Jin the whole day should have been fun for the children in the first place.
Because of all the talking Jin still didn’t finish his meal while Kame’s bowl was already empty and the younger one was just quietly sitting and looking at Jin, listening to him with an amused yet a little tired smile. A few times he suppressed a yawn because he was sure Jin would have noticed it and taken it personally, thinking his talking was boring. But Kame was just tired, he actually liked listening to Jin’s voice no matter what the other one was saying.
Kame wanted them to be already sitting on the couch. He would put his head onto Jin’s shoulder nestling to him and feeling Jin’s arm around him. The moment he had been waiting for the whole day. Only the thought about it helped him to survive a boring production meeting and seemingly the longest photoshooting in his life.
Jin took a mouthful of noodles and his eyes flicked to Kame’s bowl. “Have I told you there was a boy sitting at my table during lunch…and he was unbelievably fast. One moment his plate was full and the other….” Jin let his jaw drop down in consternation, “empty! Absolutely empty. I have never seen anyone eating that fast. Even Koki doesn’t eat like that!”
“Is that so?” Kame nodded, he was getting impatient and his eyes were now literally glued to Jin’s hand with the chop sticks and every time Jin took a breath to say something Kame was about to scream at him to hurry up.
Not noticing Kame’s silent gasp Jin put down the chop sticks again. “First I though what the hell is wrong with that kid, it’s not normal – and healthy – to eat like that, and then he stood up and taking the plate he went to one of the teachers to show her he had eaten everything.”
Okay, so now Kame really felt like he had been in the kindergarten, too. He was almost about to doubt whether it was possible for everything Jin was talking about to happen during only one day. But then again, wasn’t it exactly the point of those outings? To experience as much as possible?
“I thought,” Jin went on, “the teacher would tell him not to gobble up like that next time but she didn’t.”
“No?”
Jin shook his head. “Not at all. Instead she did the cutest thing ever,” the older one beamed raising his voice.
Kame frowned, this time for real. As much as he loved Jin’s voice and the sparkles in his eyes when he was talking about something exciting, Kame couldn’t stop thinking about the meal Jin still hadn’t finished and that had most probably cooled down by that time.
“She gave him a hanamaru mark!” a triumph sounded from every word and Jin even nodded enthusiastically, waiting for Kame’s reaction which he kind of supposed to be exactly as unrestrained as his own.
But Kame didn’t get it. Of course he didn’t because the whole thing couldn’t make sense to anybody who didn’t see it personally. “A hanamaru what?”
“A hanamaru mark. When you finish your meal you come to the teacher and show her the empty plate. Then she touches your nose with her index finger giving you a hanamaru mark because you were a good boy.”
“Oh,” Kame sighed. Not that he understood now the whole thing more than a second ago but he really wasn’t up to arguing with Jin about something trivial like this. “Children must love it.”
“Of course they do! That was the reason the boy was in such a hurry with his eating! He wanted that mark. I got it twice. Three times, actually.”
For a moment Kame was watching Jin who took the chop sticks again and quickly ate up the rest of his dinner. Meanwhile Kame stood up cleaning the table taking the dishes to the sink. And when also Jin’s bowl was empty and the boy put the chop sticks over it Kame just automatically took it away. He didn’t spot Jin’s expecting look, or how Jin leaned forward stretching his neck and staring right at him.
With a sigh of relief Kame passed to the living room throwing himself onto the couch and closed his eyes. He knew he would have to get up early in the morning and tomorrow would be even much exhausting than today. He was assigned to a promotional action and he was more than sure it wouldn’t end any time soon.
Kame slowly shifted his hand to the place next to him searching for Jin. And he opened his eyes to find out what was wrong because Jin wasn’t sitting there yet, which was rather unusual.
“Jin?” Kame waited for any reaction but got none. “Jin?”
After a moment of silence Kame got up sighing and silently cursing at whatever baka idea that came across his boyfriend’s mind this time.
Back in the kitchen Jin hadn’t moved from his seat and Kame found him exactly in the same position as he was a moment ago.
“So?” Kame looked down and Jin, a little annoyed.
Jin raised his eyes giving the latter an exemplary puppy-eyes look, and that alone gave Kame an answer for all his questions about how serious the situation was. He should have known what Jin would act like after spending the whole day with children. He sighed again, more than aware this could go on the whole night if one of them wasn’t reasonable. And it was more than obvious Jin wasn’t the case.
“Jin, what’s wrong?” Kame asked patiently.
“I was a good boy,” the older one pursed his lips, “I ate everything.”
“Of course you were,” Kame assented, still not quite sure what was this about. “You ate everything and now it’s time to enjoy the rest of the evening.”
“No.”
Kame blinked. How comes he, one of the most mature people of his age he knew, could fall in love with this pouting child?
“Jin…”
“I want my hanamaru mark.”
“You want…” Kame rubbed his face with both his hands trying to keep himself awake enough to understand. “Jin, come on, you are not in the kindergarten anymore so please, could you –”
Jin pouted even more. “I.Want.My.Hanamaru.Mark.”
Kame rolled his eyes.
He knew this very well. And he could easily imagine Jin sitting at the same place three, four, even five hours later with the same stubborn expression and whining. If he didn’t do what Jin wanted the damn hanamaru thing would be the main topic of their conversations for weeks…
As Kame thought before, one of them had to be reasonable and sensible for the other to have the liberty of being childish and infantile. That was the secret of their relationship. That was why they fit together so perfectly. They probably couldn’t be more different yet they were same at the same time.
They were like two sides of the same coin, seemingly different in everything they did and thought, but once in a while it was easy to just switch their roles. When Kame needed to take a break, being exhausted of all the responsibility he had and all the things he had to take care of, Jin was always there and ready to be the responsible and prudent one. For a while.
And Kame loved him for that even more. That’s why he actually didn’t mind too much when Jin was once in a while just who he was.
Kame raised his hand slightly brushing the tip of his index finger over Jin’s nose then leaned closer and gave a quick peck to the same spot. “Satisfied now?” he asked chuckling.
A wide smile plastered over Jin’s face. The older boy jumped up from the chair and without hesitating rushed to the living room throwing himself onto the couch and fidgeting around until found a comfortable position.
“Mou~ Kazu!” Jin whined a moment later. “Where are you?”
Kame stayed at the door for a while watching Jin. Sometimes it was hard to believe, even after all the years they had known each other, that inside this hot and tempting body could be a soul of a little pure boy…
…or maybe it was just a mask, either the outside or the inside.
Jin could be anything. Everything.
Jin patted the cushion next to him raising one of his eyebrows and Kame, even though being on the other side of the room and not able to notice how the other one’s eyes darkened, could sense the change of the atmosphere. The kindergarten time was over. Slowly, leisurely Kame pulled away from the doorframe and took one step by another to the couch.
Kame knew how much Jin loved children and how much he loved being with them. But no more was he unsure or uneasy about that…
Because in the moments like this, with Jin’s hungry eyes glued to him and following his every move Kame also knew there was something…someone…Jin loved so much more…
